Setting line properties

Line properties define the line. Examples of these properties are name, position, and orientation (horizontal or vertical). For information on line formatting (style, color, and weight), see Formatting lines using the Format Objects dialog box.

To set line properties

  1. Open the document to be formatted in the Document Editor. (How?)

  2. Select the line to be formatted.

  3. From the Format menu, select Properties. The Properties dialog box opens.

  4. You can change the following properties on the General tab:

    • Name, which is used to identify the control.

    • Visible, which determines whether the line is displayed when a user views the document. The control always remains visible in Design View, regardless of this setting. For more information, see Hiding controls.

  5. To change the position of the line, use the Layout tab. The properties include the following:

    • Left: the distance between the left edge of the line and the left border of the section

    • Top: the distance between the top edge of the line and the top of the section

  6. To set the Orientation, which is the direction of the line, use the Line tab. The options are:

    • Horizontal

    • Vertical

  7. Click OK when you have completed formatting the line. You are returned to the Document Editor.
