Properties and Formatting Dialog Box: Button

If you arrived here from Workstation, see the Workstation Document Authoring Help.

You can specify display options for a button using the Button options in the Properties and Formatting dialog box.

The Button options are displayed in the Properties and Formatting dialog box only if you select a button.

  • Arrangement
    • Style: The different button styles determine whether a caption, icon, or both are displayed. A caption is the text that describes the button's action. The icon is a small image that represents the button's action. Select from the available styles:
      • Caption only
      • Icon only
      • Icon to the left of caption
      • Icon to the right of caption
      • Icon on top of caption
      • Custom: Uses an image that fills the button as its background
  • Image

If the selected button style displays an icon or a custom image, specify the source of the images.

    • Normal state source: The normal state is displayed before the user taps the button. Type the location of the image to display in the normal state.
    • Highlight state source: The highlighted (or selected) state is displayed after the user taps the button. Type the location of the image to display in the highlighted state.

If the button is displayed in a tab bar, the images should be monochromatic.

  • Display
    • Show button in highlight state by default checkbox: If the button style is set to Caption only, you can determine whether the button is displayed as highlighted only:
      • To display the button as highlighted only after a user taps it, clear the checkbox.
      • To display the button as highlighted only, select the checkbox. When a user taps the button, the action is triggered, but the button does not change.
