Grouping Properties Dialog
If you arrived here from Workstation, see the Workstation Document Authoring Help.
The Grouping Properties dialog box allows you to select display options for a group of data in a document. A grouping field in a document consists of attributes from the dataset that you choose to include within the document. Each of these attributes will have their own header and footer section in the document. For instructions to create grouping fields in a document by grouping data; as well as examples of grouped documents and the effect of grouping on PDF bookmarks, tables of contents, multi-layout documents, and page-by; see the Grouping and Sorting chapter in the Document Creation Help.
The options below affect document display in Presentation Mode and Editable Mode as well as the printed PDF of a document (unless otherwise noted); they do not change the display in Design Mode.
To access the Grouping Properties dialog box
- Open a document in Design Mode or Editable Mode.
- Right-click a field in the Grouping panel and select Grouping Properties.
The following options are available:
-
Page by Mode: This mode allows analysts to view data one group at a time, using the page-by feature to select a group. Page-by displays groups on separate pages of the document when exported to PDF. The options are:
- No Page-By (All Only): Disables page-by, so that you cannot page by the elements of this group. When you view the document, all elements of this group are displayed. This mode is useful for the groups on the right in the Grouping panel, where it may not be useful to show one element at a time.
-
Page-By (Single Element Only): Enables page-by for this group, but you cannot select to display all the elements of the group simultaneously when you view the document. This is useful for groups with many elements, when you would not want to display all the elements at one time.
When a document contains multiple groups, this option is unavailable for the group farthest to the right in the Grouping panel.
- Page-By (Single Element or All): Enables page-by for this group and allows all elements of the group to be displayed simultaneously. By default, this mode is selected.
If you disable page-by for a particular grouping field, all fields to the right of it in the Grouping panel are also disabled. You cannot change the Page-By mode of a grouping field if the one to the left of it in the Grouping panel is set to No Page-By.
- Show Header: Determines whether the document's header section for this group is displayed.
- Show Footer: Determines whether the document's footer section for this group is displayed.
- Render horizontally: Determines whether the group is displayed horizontally, with the detail sections displayed next to the group header, horizontally across the page.
- Show Totals: Determine whether to add a group-by option for Total, so that you can select it when you view the document. The Total option displays the total for all the group elements in the document. For an example of group totals, and instructions to create them, as well as information on the effect of group totals on metric calculation, see the Grouping and Sorting chapter in the Document Creation Help.
- Keep group together: When selected, page breaks are not allowed within the selected group, from its group header to its footer and all the content between them. By default, page breaks are allowed. Applies to PDF only.
- Page break between groups: When selected, each group begins on a new page. By default, groups are printed on the same page. Applies to PDF only.
-
Restart page numbering: When selected, page numbering restarts for each group. By default, page numbering does not restart. Applies to PDF only.
Available only when Page break between groups is selected.
- Sheet break between groups: When selected, a separate worksheet, in the same Excel workbook, is created for each page when you export the document to Excel. Applies only when the document is exported to Excel.
