MicroStrategy ONE

Report Editor menu bar options: View

The following View menu options are specific to the Report Editor:

  • Design view displays the structure of a report, that is, the headers for the report template components, without the associated contents.

  • Grid view executes a report and shows you what your report looks like in Grid view. The grid report opens in the Report Viewer.

  • Graph view executes a report and shows you what your report looks like in Graph view. The graph report opens in the Report Viewer.

  • SQL view displays the SQL statement that is submitted to your data warehouse for a given report.

  • Report Objects: You must have the MicroStrategy OLAP Services product to see the Report Objects pane. This menu option displays or hides the Report Objects pane where you can see all objects that are part of the report. You can drag and drop objects from a report to this area, to remove them from the current calculation of report results but retain them for later re-use on the report. Likewise, you can take objects from the Report Objects pane and add them to the report by dragging and dropping. When objects are added to or removed from the report to the Report Objects pane, the report results dynamically recalculate to accommodate the addition or removal of the object.

  • Report Filter Definition is available in Grid view and Design view. This pane displays above the report template, and provides:

    • A list of any filters used on a report

    • Access to the Filter Editor to create a filter for the report

  • Report Details: Displays a pane above the report template showing the report's description, its filter definition, whether any report limits are applied, and whether cached data was accessed when the report was last executed.

  • View Filter: You must own the MicroStrategy OLAP Services product to see the View Filter pane. This option displays or hides the View Filter pane above the report template. Use the View Filter pane to dynamically apply new filtering conditions to the report, to filter the report results. From this pane, you can also dynamically rerun a report. The View Filter pane provides the following dynamic redefinition capabilities:

    • New lets you define new filtering criteria to filter your report results.

    • Clear removes a view filter qualification.

    • Apply redisplays the report showing new report results based on your new qualification.

    • Auto-Apply changes redisplays the report automatically so you do not have to click Apply. This is useful when you are creating or changing multiple qualifications.

  • Page-by: Displays or hides the pane where page names are shown when the Page-by functionality is applied to a report. For an introduction to page-by, see Grouping report data: Page-by.

  • Object Browser: Displays or hides the entire object set for a project. You can navigate to objects within the project, which you can then drag onto your report template to create the report.

  • Shortcuts: Displays the Shortcut Bar, which contains shortcut icons for all project-level objects. These icons provide instant access to your most commonly used folders in the project. You can customize the Shortcut Bar by adding, renaming, and deleting icons, and by grouping icons to organize them.

The Shortcut Bar cannot be displayed unless the Object Browser is displayed.

  • Toolbar: Displays the various toolbars at the top of the screen for quick access. A toolbar contains icons for tasks you commonly perform. For example, the View toolbar displays icons for all of the options available on the View menu. Each of the toolbars is displayed or hidden by clicking its name in the list.
