Intelligent Cube Options, General

The options described below allow you to define whether reports connected to Intelligent Cubes can drill outside of the Intelligent Cube to access the full set of data available in the data warehouse. You can also define whether dynamic sourcing is enabled for the Intelligent Cube.

Drilling

Reports that access an Intelligent Cube can be granted full ROLAP access to the data warehouse through drilling. This means that you can enable drilling outside of the Intelligent Cube to access the full set of data available in the data warehouse.

While this extends the analysis and data access capabilities of reports that access Intelligent Cubes, drilling outside of an Intelligent Cube can require additional load on the Intelligence Server and data warehouse. This is because drilling outside of an Intelligent Cube requires a new report to be executed against the data warehouse. To assess whether you should enable drilling outside of an Intelligent Cube, see Enabling ROLAP drilling for reports accessing Intelligent Cubes.

You have the following options:

  • Use default settings: Select this check box to use the default drilling behavior defined for the project, which can be modified using the Project Configuration Editor, Cubes category.

Clear this check box to define the drilling behavior for the Intelligent Cube.

  • Allow reports to drill outside the Intelligent Cube: Select this check box to allow reports connected to this Intelligent Cube to drill outside of the Intelligent Cube to access the full set of data available in the data warehouse.

Dynamic sourcing

The general workflow of reporting on data in Intelligent Cubes is to create a report that is linked to a published Intelligent Cube. Dynamic sourcing extends the accessibility of Intelligent Cubes by allowing regular reports to access any published Intelligent Cubes that can satisfy the data requirements of the report. This connection is performed automatically without the user having to explicitly connect their report to a published Intelligent Cube. This allows users performing ROLAP analysis to work completely within a pre-created set of data without having to manually find and select the Intelligent Cube that fits their analysis.

For information on dynamic sourcing, see the In-memory Analytics Help.

  • Make Intelligent Cube available for dynamic sourcing: Use these options to enable or disable dynamic sourcing for the Intelligent Cube.

  • Enabled: Select this option to enable dynamic sourcing for the Intelligent Cube.

  • Disabled: Select this option to disable dynamic sourcing for the Intelligent Cube.

  • Use Default Project-Level Behavior: Select this option to define the Intelligent Cube to inherit its dynamic sourcing behavior from the project settings defined in the Project Configuration Editor.

  • Allow Dynamic Sourcing even if Outer Join properties are not set: Use these options to ignore the dynamic sourcing VLDB property settings for attributes, metrics, and aggregate tables.

  • Enabled: Select this option to ignore the dynamic sourcing VLDB property settings for attributes, metrics, and aggregate tables. If your objects are modeled to support dynamic sourcing, this option allows you to enable Intelligent Cubes for dynamic sourcing without having to define dynamic sourcing behavior for attributes, metrics, and aggregate tables.

  • Disabled: Select this option to disable dynamic sourcing for the Intelligent Cube if the VLDB property settings for attributes, metrics, and aggregate tables disable dynamic sourcing. If some of the objects are not modeled to support dynamic sourcing, this avoids the possibility of displaying incorrect data in reports.

  • Use Default Project-Level Behavior: Select this option to define the Intelligent Cube to inherit its dynamic sourcing behavior from the project settings defined in the Project Configuration Editor.
