Find and Replace: Graph Preferences: Layout tab

Before you begin

This dialog box is displayed when you select Set the graph preferences individually on the Find and Replace dialog box. For information about setting graph preferences for a report, seeGraph Preferences: Options, Layout category.

The Layout tab allows you to determine, as a report designer, whether you control the positioning of graph components or the graph components are automatically repositioned to avoid overlapping elements. Repositioning can be required whenever any modifications are made that impact the layout, such as resizing or data changes. For example, if a different page-by is selected, resulting in longer data with longer category names, the graph frame height may need to be reduced so the labels fit. If the number of series increases, the height and width of the legend area may need to be increased, which reduces the width of the graph frame.

Select the layout preferences, and then select the Apply check box to the right of the preference. Click OK to return to the Find and Replace dialog box.

Select from the following options:

  • Automatic layout: Allows graph components to be repositioned automatically as needed.

If automatic layout is selected, you can manually move a graph component by beginning to move the component. A dialog box opens where you can switch to manual layout. Then the component moves.

  • Manual layout: Allows you to position graph components yourself. Defining a graph's layout manually also allows you to determine additional characteristics of how a graph's axis labels are displayed.

If you select Manual layout, the following option becomes available:

    • Re-calculate legend size automatically when data changes: Automatically re-calculates the legend size when data changes. If this option is selected, you can also set the following option:

    • Reposition chart frame and legend: Re-positions the legends to a default location such as right or left when data changes. For example, in a graph report, initially you may have placed the legend frame in the center of the graph. If you select this check box, then change the data and re-execute the report, the legend frame is automatically moved to the designated location on the graph report.
