Graph Format Dialog: General

You can determine the graph style, number of categories and series, and additional formatting options for graph reports and graphs in a document using the General tab in the Graph Format dialog.

Graph Styles:

Graph type Select the graph style to apply to the graph, such as Vertical Bar or Horizontal Area. You must have a certain number of report objects placed on your graph for most graph styles.

Graph sub-type From the drop-down list, select the style sub-type to apply to the graph, such as Clustered or Absolute.

Maximum:

Categories Type the maximum number of categories to display on the graph. For example, in a vertical bar graph with separate bars displayed for the cost, revenue, and profit across several stores, type 3 to limit the graph to displaying bars for the first three stores.

Series Type the maximum number of series to display on the graph. For example, in a vertical bar graph with separate bars displayed for the cost, revenue, and profit across several stores, type 2 to display bars for cost and revenue only.

Use font anti-aliasing Specify whether to improve the text on graphs. This setting will sharpen zoomed images so that they are more readable.

Use curved lines Specify whether curved lines are used in graphs that contain lines, such as Line and Area graphs. By default, straight lines are used in Line and Area graphs.

Apply rounded effect to all series Determine if a glossy, rounded effect is applied to the graph series in Graph view. If you already applied a gradient effect to the graph series using the Graph Format dialog, the colors you chose there are still applied to the graph.

Graph Labels:

Use Nested Labels Show or hide nested labels to control the amount of text displayed along the category axis. This is helpful when the rows of a grid report contain several attributes, which are all displayed in each label on the category axis of the graph.

  • Draw bracket for each level Add brackets for each level in the nested label to further organize the category axis.

Suppress last level labels Show or hide the last label levels of graphs that have several data series. This option applies to all data series in the graph. For example, if you have a stock graph for the report Electronic Sales over Time, you could have several data series, one for each subcategory. With this option enabled, the last label of subcategories is not displayed, and the label, TV's Revenue, is displayed as TV's.
