How to Define Custom Authentication Methods When Importing Data from a URL

If you don't use any of the supported connections or if the URL file requires a different set of credentials, you can define and use a custom connection.

1. Create a blank dashboard or open an existing one.

2. Choose Add Data > New Data to import data into a new dataset.

   or

   In the Datasets panel, click More next to the dataset name and choose Edit Dataset to add data to the dataset. The Preview Dialog opens. Click Add a new table.

   The Data Sources dialog opens.

3. Click Data from URL. The Data from URL dialog opens.
4. Select Add a new connection from the Connection List drop-down.
5. Select Username and Password from the Credential Type drop-down.
6. Enter the user name for authentication in User.
7. Specify the password to use for authentication in Password.
8. Enter a unique name to identify the connection in Connection Name.
9. Click Save to return to the Data from URL dialog.
10. If you need to edit or delete a connection option, locate the connection in the Connection List drop-down. Hover over the connection name to display a drop-down arrow. Then, select the drop-down arrow and choose Edit or Delete.
