MicroStrategy ONE

Format: Template Dialog Box: Number Tab

If you arrived here from Workstation, see the Workstation Document Authoring Help.

You can specify a number format for specific values in the grid report, using the Number tab of the Format: Template dialog box. (If DHTML is disabled, you use the Format panel.)

From the first drop-down list, select the area of the report to format, such as All Grid Cells, Grid Borders, or a specific attribute or metric. From the second drop-down list, select the type of values to format, such as Header or Subtotal Values. Then select a format for the values from the Category drop-down list. For example, you can display numbers as a percentage or with a currency symbol. You can display numbers as currency and also determine the number of decimal places for the values.

For internationalization, you can use the Custom option to create a dynamic currency format that changes according to the locale's default currency symbol (select the Number and Date Format language in the General preferences). The dynamic currency is displayed in grid and graph reports displayed in MicroStrategy Web, MicroStrategy Mobile, and MicroStrategy Office and exported to PDF. For a graph report, the dynamic currency is applied to the data label.

Define the custom format in the Type field as:

¤#,###.00

where the ¤ character is created by pressing the ALT key while typing 0164. The ¤ character is replaced with the locale's default currency symbol. For example, if the Number and Date Format is set to German (Germany), then a numeric value in this format is displayed as €1.234,56. If the Number and Date Format is set to German (Switzerland), the numeric value is displayed as Fr.1'234.56.

The syntax shown above displays the currency symbol before the number, but you can change its location. For example, to display the currency symbol after the number, use #,###.00¤; to display it before the number with a space, use ¤ #,###.00.
