MicroStrategy ONE
Download and Pre-Cache Dashboards for Offline Use
You can manually download dashboards so that you can use them when you are offline in MicroStrategy Mobile.
Smart Download and Automatic Refresh were introduced in for iOS Mobile in MicroStrategy 2020 Update 1.
-
Smart Download predicts and proactively caches the most-frequently viewed dashboards. Smart Download includes cached bookmarks based on the most-frequently used bookmarks. Enable Smart Download in your account.
-
Automatic Refresh seamlessly updates the caches periodically across dashboards. The caches are loaded and updated so you always have the most up-to-date version available if you are offline. Enable Refresh View Automatically in your account.
Starting in MicroStrategy ONE (December 2024), content groups in an application can be pre-cached. When you log into the application in iOS Mobile, the dashboards in content groups with pre-caching enabled download for offline use. You receive a notification indicating the download progress, which updates when the download completes. For details about how pre-caching works, see How Pre-caching Dashboards Works.
When a dashboard is available for offline use, either through pre-caching or downloading, the Available Offline indicator (a green check) displays on its cover. The indicator turns orange when the cache is not up to date or is incomplete. You should download the dashboard again before switching to offline mode.
-
Even if the Available Offline indicator displays the green check, you may not be able to open all the links in offline mode. The indicator represents the cache status of the source dashboard. Links may have been partially updated when you opened them in online mode. You should download the dashboard again to refresh the cache before turning the device to offline mode.
-
If the dashboard is defined to open the last closed view (set in the Dashboard Properties Dialog), the indicator may frequently turn orange because of manipulations in the dashboard. For example, filtering, sorting, or applying a bookmark update the view. You should save your preferred view as a bookmark and pre-cache it.
Download a Dashboard
When you download the dashboard for offline use, the default view and, starting with MicroStrategy 2020 Update 1, all bookmarks are also downloaded.

From the Home page, tap Additional Information, and then tap Make Available Offline .
How Pre-caching Dashboards Works
An application designer can enable Pre-cache for each content group in an application. This means that when you log into the application in iOS Mobile for the first time, all the dashboards in the content group are downloaded for offline use.
-
If you send the application to the background, pre-caching is suspended. When you return to the application, pre-caching resumes if it did not complete. If the last pre-cache was more than 10 minutes ago, pre-caching restarts.
-
Each dashboard is pre-cached with the last closed view or the last saved view, depending on how the View in Library property is set in the Dashboard Properties Dialog.
-
The targets of any links in the dashboards also download, so you can smoothly transition between dashboards in offline mode.
-
Selections made in chapter filters and stand-alone filters are passed in links, based on the last closed view. For example, the source dashboard contains a Region filter and a link that passes the Region selection to another dashboard. The source dashboard opens with the Southeast region selected. When the pre-cache is triggered, the iOS Library app pre-caches the source and target dashboards with Southeast selected.
- If the source of a link is a selection in a visualization, the selection is not passed to the target dashboard in offline mode. Continuing with the example above, the source dashboard also contains a link from a visualization that passes the selection and the filters. When you select the Books category in the grid, the target dashboard opens with Books and Southeast selected. When you use the visualization link in offline mode, again selecting Books in the grid, the target opens with Southeast selected but not Books.
- Links defined with URLs are not pre-cached.
-
- Bookmarks and dashboards containing prompted datasets are not pre-cached.
-
You can manually pre-cache a single bookmark or multiple bookmarks. For steps, see Pre-caching a Bookmark.
