Version 2021

Connecting to a server

To administer a project source or Narrowcast Server with Command Manager, you must first establish a connection with that metadata source.

You can have multiple connections open at once, to both project sources and Narrowcast servers. You can also open multiple connections to a single metadata source. A given connection can have multiple scripts.

The login you provide must have the Use Command Manager privilege, and the usual privileges for any system maintenance tasks the procedure performs. For information on user privileges, see the Setting Up User Security chapter of the MicroStrategy System Administration Guide.

You can also open one or more connection-less windows. These windows allow you to edit Command Manager scripts without first connecting to a specific metadata source. For more information about connection-less Script windows, see Working without a connection to a server. To connect to a server from a connection-less window, use the Connection management statements or the Narrowcast Server connection management statements.

At the bottom of the File menu is a list of the most recently used connections. When you select one of these connections from the File menu, you are automatically connected to that project source or Narrowcast Server, with the login information that you used previously. This provides a quick way to access commonly used metadata sources.

When you start Command Manager, the Login Dialog Box appears. You can use this dialog box to connect to a project source. If you wish to connect to a Narrowcast Server, or to make a connection by using the Most Recently Used Connections list at the bottom of the File menu, click Cancel and then follow the appropriate steps below.
