Strategy ONE

Send Dashboard and Document Execution to the Background and Create a Snapshot

Beginning in Strategy One (September 2025), you can create a snapshot without executing the dashboard or report. This makes it even easier and faster to save items for quick viewing later. You can also take a snapshot of an existing dashboard bookmark.

Beginning in Strategy One (July 2025), you can send dashboard or report execution to the background so that you can perform other operations in Library. Beginning in Strategy One (August 2025), you can send document execution to the background.

When a dashboard, report, or document takes a long time to execute, perhaps because it requires a high volume of live data or extensive joins across different business dimensions, you can choose to Cancel the execution or Run in Background. Running in the background creates a snapshot of the dashboard, report, or document. You can continue to work in Library, such as opening other dashboards or creating content.

When the snapshot is ready for consumption, a notification displays. You can click the message to view the snapshot. You are notified if the snapshot could not be created as well.

If you know the object will take a long time to execute, you can manually create the snapshot without trying to execute the object. Right-click the dashboard or report and select Create a Snapshot . You can continue to work in Library. A notification displays when the snapshot is ready.

  • You can also create a snapshot from the Information Window.

Snapshots in the Sidebar of the Library Home Page

You can access snapshots in the sidebar of the Library home page if your administrator enabled the Snapshots component. Snapshots include those created for dashboard/report/document execution as described above and for dashboard subscriptions, document subscriptions, and report subscriptions.
