Version 2021

How to Enable and View Statistics

You can enable statistics to interpret and analyze system and server performance and disable them when you no longer need to monitor performance. For example, you can obtain information about the time taken by the Web Server and Intelligence Server to complete an operation, how much data is received and sent, the waiting time to receive some data from the Intelligence Server, and so on.

You can configure Web to display the statistics log file at the bottom of each page in Web. You can also save the statistics to a text file.

The following statistics can be displayed and used as a source for analyzing statistical information about Web.

  • The time taken by Web Server and Intelligence Server to process an operation

  • The time taken by the Web Server and Intelligence Server to complete an operation

  • The waiting time to receive some data from the Intelligence Server

  • How much data is received and sent

Statistics are enabled and configured from the Statistics Page in the MicroStrategy Web Administrator page.

If multiple users work on the same server, displaying statistics for each of them is not recommended as it may impact system performance.

If the statistics are being saved in the file, the file size grows quickly, which is unnecessary. For this reason, this feature should not be used under normal circumstances. This feature is useful only when the system is not working properly and you want to analyze the data for system tuning or troubleshooting.

  1. Access the MicroStrategy Web Administrator page. (How?)

  2. From the pane on the left, select Statistics. The Statistics page opens.

  3. Determine if and where statistics are displayed by choosing one of the following from the Mode drop-down list.

    • OFF: Statistics are not displayed on the screen or saved in a file. This option is selected by default.

    • Screen: Statistics are displayed in the lower left corner of all MicroStrategy Web pages.

    • File: Statistics are saved in the specified file and you can open the file to see them. If you select this mode, you must enter an absolute path in the Statisticsfile field, as explained below.

    • Screen and File: Statistics are displayed both on MicroStrategy Web pages in the log file you specified. If you select this mode, you must enter an absolute path in the Statistics file field, as explained below.

  4. If you selected File or Screen and File mode above, enter the absolute path of where the Web Server is installed.

  5. Click Save.
