MicroStrategy ONE
Creating a prompted metric qualification
Before you begin
You should be familiar with filters (which contain at least one qualification), prompts, and custom groups. For background information, see About filters, Types of qualifications, About prompts, and About custom groups. Metric qualifications create a set of attributes based on the metrics associated with those attributes; for a more detailed description and example, see About metric set qualifications.
In a filter or custom group, a prompted metric qualification allows you to select a function, select an operator, or specify the value for a metric at report run time. You can create the following types of metric qualification prompts:
-
Qualify on a metric allows you to qualify on a metric. You can choose a metric by specifying a single metric to use at run time or by specifying a search object to restrict the list of metrics to choose from.
-
Metric Object prompt allows you to select, at run time, one or more metrics that meet specific criteria. For example, you could use a search to return a list of all metrics that contain a certain fact. From that list, you can choose the metrics to see on the report.
-
Value prompt allows you to select a single value on which to qualify, such as a date, a specific number, or a specific text string.
To create a prompted metric qualification
-
Choose one of the following:
-
Select Add a Set qualification and click OK. The Set Qualification pane opens.
-
Select Metric from the Type drop-down list.
-
To qualify on a metric, complete the following steps:
-
Click Prompt. The Prompt Generation Wizard opens.
-
Follow the instructions in "Qualify on a metric" prompts.
-
Finish creating the qualification, beginning at this step.
-
-
Set the output level, which is the level at which the metric results are calculated. How?
If you do not set the output level for a filter, the default is to use the metric's dimensionality or the report level. For more information, see Output levels of metric qualifications. You must set the output level for a custom group. For more information, see Defining output levels for custom group qualifications.
-
To create a metric object prompt, which allows the report user to select metrics that meet specific criteria, complete the following steps:
-
Click the Choose a metric prompt icon at the end of the Metric box. The Prompt Generation Wizard opens.
If this icon is not displayed, you need to set the Show all available prompts buttons option in the My Preferences dialog box. See Defining default options for the Filter Editor for instructions.
-
Follow the instructions in Filtering based on metrics, attributes, or other objects: Object prompts. Once the prompt is created, the Parameters section replaces the Tip section.
-
Finish creating the qualification, beginning at this step.
-
-
If you have not created a "Qualify on a metric" prompt (step 4) or a metric object prompt (step 6), select a metric by one of the following methods:
-
Type the name of the metric in the Metric box and click OK.
-
Click ... (the browse button) to browse for the metric. In the Open dialog box, navigate to the folder that contains the metric, select the metric, and click OK.
-
Drag the metric from the Object Browser into the Metric box.
Once a metric is selected, the Parameters section replaces the Tip section.
-
-
Select the logical operator from the Operator drop-down list.
-
Select the type of operator value to which to compare from the drop-down list below the Operator box. These types are listed below, with information on how to fill in the text box next to the drop-down list:
-
Value: Enter the value to qualify the metric on in the text box.
-
Simple Prompt: Creates a value prompt, allowing you to select a single value on which to qualify. The Prompt Generation Wizard opens. See Filtering based on a single value or string: Value prompts for further instructions.
This is the same as clicking the Simple Prompt icon at the end of the text box.
-
Metric: Creates a metric-to-metric qualification. Type a metric name in the text box or click … to browse for a metric.
-
Custom: Enter a custom expression to qualify the function in the text box.
-
-
If you selected Rank or Percent as the Function, you can set break by values. How?
-
By default, existing attribute qualifications are merged into the calculation of the metric qualification. To change this, follow the steps below.
-
Click Advanced. The Advanced Options dialog box opens.
-
Clear the When resolving this qualification in a report, other qualifications will be taken into consideration and merged check box.
-
Click OK to return to the Set Qualification pane.
-
-
Click OK to close the Set Qualification pane.
-
You can add more qualifications to the filter or custom group.
-
Save the filter or custom group.
