MicroStrategy ONE
Editing an object
You can edit MicroStrategy objects if you have appropriate ACL (access control list) permissions for the object that you want to edit. To see the permissions that you have with an object, right-click the object, select Properties, then select Security.
Renaming an object or changing the description
Do not use the rename or edit features to translate an object's name or description. Use the appropriate translation feature to provide object translations. (The simplest way to translate an object is to right-click the object and select Translate.) Translating by using the rename or other editing features can cause versioning problems for the object, which can also affect caching.
If the objects you are editing have translated names and descriptions, when a user changes the object name or description, the change only occurs in the user's language (the language the user has selected to be his metadata language preference). For example, if an object's primary language is English, and it has no French name or description, when a French user logs in (a user whose metadata language preference is French), he sees the English name and description because the object has no translation in the user's preferred language and so the system defaults to displaying the object's primary language. If the French user then edits the object name or description using Rename or Change, the new name and description are saved to the object's French translation, rather than changing the English name or description. This is because editing an object's name or description occurs only in the user's preferred metadata language.
To edit an object
-
Double-click the object. The object opens within its appropriate editor. For example, a report opens in the Report Editor, a metric opens in the Metric Editor, and so on. The links below provide steps to get started in each editor.
-
Perform the changes that you wish. For details on each option in each interface of an editor, click Help.
You can edit an object on a report, such as a metric or custom group, directly in the Report Editor if you wish. For example, you can double-click the report to open it in the Report Editor, then you can make changes to the report itself, as well as to a metric that is on the report, all within the Report Editor. However, be aware that you may not see the results of your object changes (in this example, the metric changes) immediately.
