MicroStrategy ONE

Testing Report and Document Execution in a Project

In a single-project integrity test, Integrity Manager tests the execution of any or all of the reports and documents in a project. This is useful when changes have been made somewhere in the system and you want to ensure that none of the changes cause execution errors in your reports.

Some situations in which you might use a single-project integrity test include:

  • Modifying the data warehouse ODBC information (executing against a different warehouse)
  • Modifying the data warehouse user configuration, for example, logging in as a different RDBMS user with different privileges or views
  • Performing warehouse maintenance, such as deleting presumably unused tables
  • Migrating the project's Intelligence Server to a different operating system
  • Upgrading to a new version of MicroStrategy
  • Altering the project schema
  • Making changes to MicroStrategy user Access Control Lists (ACLs) or privileges
  • Modifying the project-wide VLDB settings

A single-project integrity test can also generate a baseline for a baseline-versus-project or baseline-versus-baseline integrity test.

In a single-project integrity test, Integrity Manager executes the specified reports/documents. It then displays a list of the reports/documents along with whether the execution of each report/document succeeded or failed.

  • If a report/document failed, you can view the details and why it failed in the Report Data area of Integrity Manager.
  • If a report/document succeeded, you can view the report data, generated SQL code, graph, Excel output, or PDF output for the report, or the Excel or PDF output for the document.

Only reports that have been saved in Graph or Grid/Graph format can be viewed as graphs.

To execute an integrity test on a project, you must have the Use Integrity Manager privilege for that project. For information on user privileges, see the Setting Up User Security chapter of the System Administration Guide.

Integrity Manager can only test projects in Server (three-tier) mode. Projects in Direct Connection (two-tier) mode cannot be tested with this tool.

To test the Excel export of a report or document, you must have Microsoft Excel installed on the machine running Integrity Manager.
