Comparing Reports/Documents to a Previously Established Baseline

In a baseline-versus-project integrity test, Integrity Manager executes selected reports or documents from a project and compares them against a previously established baseline. The baseline can be established by running a single project integrity test or from a previous execution of a project-versus-project integrity test.

Baseline-versus-project integrity tests are used in situations like:

  • Only having one test server to work with. You can generate a baseline (by executing a single-project integrity test), apply your changes, and then execute a baseline-versus-project integrity test to see if any reports or documents have changed.
  • Modifying the results for a single report (by replacing that report's files in the baseline) instead of re-executing the entire baseline.

For reports, you can compare the report data, generated SQL code, graphs, Excel output, and PDF output. For documents, you can compare the Excel output or PDF output of the documents or test the execution of the documents without exporting the output. Integrity Manager informs you which reports/documents are different between the two projects and highlights in red the differences between them.

Only reports that have been saved in Graph or Grid/Graph format can be compared as graphs.

You must first establish a baseline to compare the selected reports/documents against. For instructions on how to establish a baseline, see Testing report and document execution in a project.

To execute an integrity test on a project, you must have the Use Integrity Manager privilege for that project and have the Execute permission for any reports that you want to test. For information on privileges and permissions, see the Setting Up User Security chapter of the System Administration Guide.

Integrity Manager can only test projects in Server (three-tier) mode. Projects in Direct Connection (two-tier) mode cannot be tested with this tool.

To test the Excel export of a report or document, you must have Microsoft Excel installed on the machine running Integrity Manager.
