The Filter Editor provides a set of unique menu functions for filter definition and modification. In addition to standard Windows menus, the menu bar includes filter-specific choices under the following menu options:

Insert menu

Use the options in the Insert menu to add objects to a filter definition. You must select an object in the Object Browser to activate these menu options.

The following options are enabled only when you select a filter qualification:

  • Edit: modifies the selected qualification.

  • Move Up: moves the selected qualification one level up in the definition. Qualifications in a filter are evaluated in the order in which they appear, with the qualifications at the top of the filter being evaluated first. For an example, see Changing the evaluation order of qualifications in a filter.

  • Move Down: moves the selected qualification one level down in the definition. Qualifications in a filter are evaluated in the order in which they appear, with the qualifications at the top of the filter being evaluated first. For an example, see Changing the evaluation order of qualifications in a filter.

The following options are enabled only when you select an operator:

  • Increase Indent: indents the selected operator and its associated qualifications to the right. Qualifications in a filter that are grouped and indented to the same level are evaluated together.

    • For example, two qualifications are connected through the AND operator. If you select the AND operator and increase the indent, the two qualifications along with the operator move to the right.

  • Decrease Indent: indents the selected operator and its associated qualifications to the left. Qualifications in a filter that are grouped and indented to the same level are evaluated together.

    • For example, two qualifications are connected through the AND operator. If you select the AND operator and decrease the indent, the two qualifications along with the operator move to the left.

  • Toggle Operator: replaces the operator between two qualifications. For example, you can replace the default AND operator between two qualifications with OR, OR NOT, or AND NOT operators. This option also indents the two qualifications to the right. For more information, see Operators for multiple qualifications.
