Custom Group Editor: Custom Group Band Qualification pane

A banding qualification slices a list of attribute elements using the values of a metric. For more information, see Creating custom group banding qualifications.

Custom Group Band Qualification pane content

The Custom Group Band Qualification pane contains the following options:

  • Metric: The target metric, that is, the metric to use in the qualification. Use any of the following methods to select a metric:

  • Drag the metric from the Object Browser.

  • Type the name of the metric.

  • Click ... (the browse button) to browse for the metric.

  • Band on: The criterion for metric calculation. Select from Metric Value, Rank, and Percent.

  • Banding type: The different types are:

  • Band size, which slices the range of metric values defined by the Start at and Stop at values into a number of bands, each defined by the Step size value. See Banding type: Band size.

  • Band count, which defines the number of equal bands (the Band count value) into which the range of metric values is sliced. For an example, see Banding type: Band count.

  • Banding points, which creates the Banding points values to set, enabling bands of different sizes to be produced. For an example, see Banding type: Banding points.

  • Band for each distinct metric value, which creates a separate band for each value calculated by the metric. For an example, see Banding type: Metric value banding.

The options in the rest of the pane vary depending on the selections made in the Banding type box, as described below:

  • Start at: (Displayed for Band size and Band count) The first value in the range.

  • Stop at: (Displayed for Band size and Band count) The last value in the range.

  • Step size: (Displayed for Band size) The size of each band.

  • Band count: (Displayed for Band count) The number of bands to create.

  • Band name/From: (Displayed for Banding points) A graphical representation of the bands to create. To add another band, click Add New Band. For each band:

  • Click New Band to enter a name for the band.

  • Click From to enter the number to start the band.

  • Click To to enter the number to end the band.

  • ClickXto delete the band.

The Level button allows you to set the output level (required) and break by values (optional) for the qualification. Clicking it opens the Output tab of the Level dialog box. If Band on is set to Rank or Percent, the Breakby tab is also available.

  • Output Level specifies the level at which the metric is calculated for the qualification.

  • Break By allows you to choose the attribute level at which to restart counting the rank or percentage for the metric.
