Adding a prompt to a custom group's definition
A custom group allows you to group attribute elements in a way that is not defined in the data warehouse. You can create "relationships" between the attribute and the custom group. A custom group is made up of an ordered collection of components called custom group elements, which contain sets of filtering or banding qualifications. Qualifications are the actual conditions that must be met for data to be included in the custom group element. Examples include "Region = Northeast" or "Revenue > $1 million". You can use prompts in custom group qualifications.
You can add almost any kind of prompt to a custom group's definition in the Custom Group Editor. The following table lists requirements to add different prompt types to a custom group definition.
Type of Prompt | Custom Group Definition Pane |
All filter definition prompts | Yes |
Object prompt of attributes | Added as part of an advanced qualification |
Object prompt of metrics |
Added as part of a set qualification, and any place that accepts metrics |
Object prompt of filters | Yes |
Date prompt (value prompt) | Added as part of an attribute form qualification, on an attribute form of Date data type |
Numeric prompt, Long prompt, or Big Decimal prompt (value prompt) | Added as part of a set qualification, on an attribute form of a text data type |
Text prompt (value prompt) | Added as part of an attribute form qualification, on an attribute form of a text data type |
Level prompts | Cannot be used in custom groups |
Use one of the following procedures, depending on the type of prompt that you want to add to the custom group:
-
Adding a filter definition prompt or an object prompt containing filters to a custom group
-
Adding a Numeric prompt, Long prompt, or Big Decimal prompt to a custom group
You can also create a prompt when you create a custom group. This embedded prompt cannot be used in other custom groups or objects, but only in the custom group that it was created in. For instructions to create an embedded prompt within a custom group, see About prompted custom groups.
