How to Schedule a Dashboard Cache Update

You can subscribe an individual dashboard to a cache update, and create all of the corresponding Library and Library Mobile dashboard caches. This subscription allows the dashboard to be loaded as quickly as possible in Library and Library Mobile using the latest available data, without having to generate a cache.

This subscription is a good candidate for event-triggered schedules.

About Cache Update Subscriptions

Cache update subscriptions refresh the cache for the specified dashboard. A cache is a pre-calculated and pre-processed result set that is stored in memory on the Intelligence Server machine and on disk, and enables the dashboard to be retrieved more quickly than re-executing the request against the data warehouse.

Your system contains a set of standard weekly and monthly dashboards. These dashboards should be cached because they are frequently accessed. Certain tables in the database are refreshed weekly, and other tables are refreshed monthly. Whenever these tables are updated, the appropriate caches should be refreshed.

To Schedule a Dashboard Cache Update

  1. Hover over a dashboard, and click Subscriptions.

  2. Click Add cache update subscription.

  3. Decide a name for your subscription, how often it will update, and its type and recipients.

To include bookmark caches, check Library Cache and Include bookmark caches.

  4. To verify that you are subscribed to the dashboard, click the MicroStrategy icon MicroStrategy icon, and select My Subscriptions. A list of the items to which you are subscribed appears.
