How to Run a Report

You can click on a report's name to run any report you have permissions to access. Reports are organized into folders in MicroStrategy projects. When you run a report, it is executed and displayed as either a grid (similar to a spreadsheet), a graph, or both a grid and a graph on the same screen, depending on how the report was saved.

For more information about different ways to view a report, see How to View a Report as a Grid: Grid View, How to View a Report as a Graph: Graph View, and How to View a Report in Grid and Graph View Together.

To Run a Report

  1. Navigate to the folder that contains the report you want to run.
  2. Click the name of the report to run the report.
  3. If the Wait Page appears as your report is executing, you can click Add to my History List to automatically save a copy of the report in your History List when the report is finished executing. This does not affect the current execution of the report. You can then view the report in your History List at any time, after it is saved there. You can save a report to your History List at any time. For information about the History List, see View Report and Document Results in Your History List.
  4. If you are presented with a prompt question, you must answer the prompt(s) before the results of the report are displayed. See Introduction to Prompted Reports for steps to answer the prompts.
  5. After the report is displayed, you can specify whether the results appear in a grid or a graph. Go to View > Grid, Graph, or Grid and Graph. For more information, see How to View a Report as a Grid: Grid View, How to View a Report as a Graph: Graph View, or How to View a Report in Grid and Graph View Together.
