How to Manage Database Connections

You can edit, delete, rename, or duplicate an existing database connection.

Create the database connection you want to modify. See Connecting to a Data Source to Import Data for more information.

To Duplicate, Edit, or Rename a Database Connection

You must have the Create and Edit Database Instances and Connections and Create and Edit Database Logins privileges to modify a database connection.

  1. Select Build a Query, Type a Query, or Select tables. The Import from Tables dialog opens.
  2. On the Data Sources pane on the left, hover over the name of the database connection to modify and click the arrow icon. Select from the following:
    • To duplicate the database connection, click Duplicate. The duplicate connection is automatically created and displayed in the Database Connections panel.
    • To edit the database connection, click Edit. The Database Connection dialog opens. Edit the database connection by providing the appropriate details for the type of connection that you want to define, such as the database management system (DBMS), and the log-in name and password to use to connect to the database. The information required may vary depending on the specific type of database connection that you want to edit. Click OK.
    • To rename the database connection, click Rename. Type the new name in the Please Enter Name field, then click OK.

To Delete a Database Connection

You must have the object permissions required to delete the database connection.

  1. Select the type of data source.
  2. On the Data Sources pane on the left, hover over the name of the database connection to delete and click the arrow icon > Delete.
  3. Click Yes.
