MicroStrategy ONE
Introduction to Metrics
Metrics are MicroStrategy objects that represent business measures and key performance indicators. Metrics are calculations performed on your data. The results of these calculations appear on your dashboard. Metrics are similar to formulas in spreadsheet software.
Metric calculations display information at simple as well as complex levels of analysis: displaying sales trends, growth patterns, percent-to-total contributions, profit analysis, etc. Questions such as "What were the sales for the Eastern Region during the fourth quarter?" and "How many employees received a bonus greater than $5000 in the last three years?" can easily be answered by metrics.
MicroStrategy Workstation creates metrics when you import data. Metrics appear in the Datasets panel with a metric icon. You can also create new metrics, known as derived metrics, based on existing metrics.
You can create a Profit derived metric from the values of existing metrics, such as Revenue - Cost.
