Metric Editor

The Metric Editor is the MicroStrategy tool for creating and modifying metrics, which are calculations performed against the data in the data warehouse. Metrics represent business measures and key performance indicators.

Before you use the Metric Editor, you should familiarize yourself with:

The purpose of metrics in reports
Metric components and their functions, such as level, condition, and transformation
The difference between simple and compound metrics
Facts and attributes

The information on the Metric Editor is divided into the following main sections:

Accessing the Metric Editor

Do one of the following:

Create a new metric
Modify an existing metric

To create a new metric

Select File, point to New, and then Metric. The Metric Editor opens.

You cannot access the New menu option until you log in to a project.
The New Metric dialog box is displayed by default the first time you use the Metric Editor. If you do not want it displayed in the future, select Do not show this dialog in the future. For more information, see The purpose of an object template.

To modify an existing metric

Use the Folder List to locate the metric to modify.
Select the metric by double-clicking its name or icon. The metric opens in the Metric Editor.
