MicroStrategy ONE
Disabling object templates
Object templates are a predefined structure for creating a new object. If you disable object templates for an object type (such as metrics or reports), the New Object dialog box, which displays object templates, does not appear when you create an object of that type. The default object template is used automatically; if a default has not been defined for this object type, the empty object template is used. For details about the default object template and the empty object template, see Object templates at the project level.
Disabling object templates can be a good way to streamline the process of object creation if you never use object templates, or if you want to use only a specific object template. However, disabling object templates for reports also disables object templates for Intelligent Cubes. In addition, users then cannot create reports that access Intelligent Cubes, MDX cube sources, or Freeform Sources, or Intelligent Cubes that access MDX cube sources or Freeform Sources.
You can disable object templates in two ways:
-
As you are creating a new object. When the New Object dialog box opens, select the Don't show this dialog in the future check box. The next time that you create an object of this type, the editor opens immediately.
-
From the MicroStrategy Developer Preferences dialog box, which allows you to choose which object types to disable object templates for. The procedure below describes how to do this.
You can always enable object templates again if you want to begin using them again.
To disable object templates
-
From the Tools menu, choose DeveloperPreferences. The MicroStrategy Developer Preferences dialog box opens.
-
Expand the Object Template category, and select General.
-
For each object type that you do want to use object templates for, select the check box in front of its name.
Disabling object templates for reports also disables object templates for Intelligent Cubes.
-
Click OK when you have completed your selections. Your changes are saved and the MicroStrategy Developer Preferences dialog box closes.
