New Object dialog box

When you create a new consolidation, custom group, document, filter, Intelligent Cube, metric, report, or template, the appropriate New Object dialog box opens. For example, when you create a new metric, the New Metric dialog box opens. The dialog box displays all the object templates for this type of object. Empty object templates are a subset of object templates. Empty object templates allow you to set default formatting and other properties for new objects. For more details on empty object templates, and object templates in general, see About object templates.

Select one of these object templates to use a predefined structure on which to begin creating the new object. Once you select an object, the appropriate editor (Consolidation Editor, Custom Group Editor, and so on) opens.

The New Object dialog box is not displayed if any of the following are true:

  • No object templates have been created for the particular object type, and the empty object template for this object type has been disabled.

  • You have chosen not to display the dialog box for this object type.

  • You have disabled object templates for this object type.

If the New Object dialog box is not displayed, the default object template is used automatically; if a default has not been defined for this object type, the empty object template is used. Data source tabs for reports and Intelligent Cubes

When you create a new report or a new Intelligent Cube,

the New Grid or New Intelligent Cube dialog box displays object templates on the General tab. The following tabs are displayed to allow you to use different data sources for the new report or Intelligent Cube:
