Custom Permission Level Dialog Box

You can choose which permissions to assign a user or user group for an object. For example, you can select the Browse permission to allow a user to browse to the location of a report in MicroStrategy Web.

For general information on assigning privileges, including steps, see the System Administration Help. For a list of the privileges available and their descriptions, see the System Administration Guide.

To assign permissions for an object to another user or a user group, you must have

  • The Control permission for the object.
  • The Web Use Object Sharing Editor privilege.

To Select Custom Permissions for an Object

  1. Navigate to the folder location of the object.
  2. Right-click the object, and select Share. The Share dialog box is displayed, with a list of users and user groups with permissions for the object listed under Who has access.
  3. To type the name of a user or user group, type a name in the Type users or groups here field. Select the user or user group from the drop-down that displays.

  4. By default, the user or user group is given the View permission. From the permission drop-down, select Custom.
  5. The permissions that you selected are automatically displayed in the permission drop-down. For example, if you select the Browse, Read, and Write permissions, B, R, W is displayed in the drop-down.
  6. Select the permissions you want to assign for the object, as follows:
    • To allow the user to browse to and view the object in Web, select the Browse checkbox. Users who do not have this permission will not be able to browse to the object in a folder in Web, or in Office.

    • To allow the user to edit the object, select the Write checkbox.

    • To allow the user to execute reports or documents that use the object, select the Execute checkbox.

To execute a report or document, a user must have Execute access to all objects on the report or document, as well as to the report or document itself.

  7. Click OK to return to the Share dialog box. The permissions that you selected are automatically displayed in the permission drop-down. For example, if you select the Browse, Read, and Write permissions, B, R, W is displayed in the drop-down.
