Strategy One

Format Panel for Donut Chart Visualizations

Once you add a donut chart to a dashboard, you can format it. Donut charts are new for Strategy One (December 2025).

Access

  1. Open an existing dashboard that contains a donut visualization.
  2. Select the visualization.
  3. The Editor, Filter, and Format panels are stacked together by default. Click Format to open it.

    • If the Format panel is not available, do one of the following:

      • Starting in Strategy One (November 2025), click the Format icon in the left toolbar.

      • Prior to Strategy One (November 2025), from the View menu, select Editor Panel to display all three panels. Click Format to open it.

    • Starting in Strategy One (November 2025), you can place the Editor, Filter, and Format panels above and below each other as though in a column. To do this, drag one panel to the bottom of another. You can then adjust the relative height of the panels by hovering your cursor over the line dividing the panels and dragging the resizing icon up or down.

  4. Select one of the following tabs on the Format panel:

Visualization Options

Format the high-level layout and appearance of the visualization.

Spacing

  • Inner ratio: Determines the relative size of the donut hole in the middle compared to the entire visualization. 0% removes the hole completely, resulting in a donut chart that looks most like the slices of a pie chart. 99% is the thinnest ring possible, resulting in the largest hole and a look like a ring chart. A larger hole provides a sleeker, more modern look while making it easy to read the label. Balance that with providing enough of an edge to make it quick and easy to identify contributions. For examples, see Create a Donut Chart.

  • Padding: Determines the gap between the segments. More padding makes the segments more visually distinct, providing a cleaner and more modern look. The range is 0 to 5 (in degrees). Padding is reduced automatically if any segment is too small to display.

Label

You can enable or disable the Label which displays in the middle of the donut chart. When labels are enabled, you can determine what displays in the label. You can select either or both of these options:

  • Text: Display the metric name.
  • Value: Display the total metric value.

Format the font of the label in Labels and Shapes on the Text and Form tab.

Legend

You can enable or disable the Legend, which helps you quickly understand how the different objects are represented. For example, the green bar of a bar graph represents profit while the red bar represents loss. When the legend is enabled, you can:

  • Enable or disable the legend's Title (the attribute's name)

  • Determine what Value displays in the legend. You can display either, both, or neither of the following:

    • Value: Display the metric value associated with each attribute element.
    • Percentage: Display the percentage value associated with each attribute element.

Format the font of the legend in Legend on the Text and Form tab.

Text and Form

Customize the fonts and forms displayed on the visualization.

From the drop-down list, select the area of the visualization to format:

Labels and Shapes

  • Format the Font of the label, which displays in the middle of the donut chart.

Enable, disable, and select what to display in Label on the Visualization Options tab.

  • Select the Shape to format. You can format All the shapes in the same way, or select a specific segment to format from the drop-down list.

    • Fill: Select the fill color from the color palette. Select the opacity of the color; the higher the percentage, the more opaque the fill color is.

  • Select the Radius of rounded corners for the segments. A larger radius provides a more rounded shape.

Legend

If the legend is enabled, this option is available. (Enable the legend in Legendon the Visualization Options tab.)

  • Format the Font for the legend.

Title and Container

Format the visualization’s title and container (think of the container as the object that holds the visualization).

Title Bar

You can enable or disable the Title Bar.

Container

  • Fill: Select the background color of the visualization from the palette.

  • Border: Select the style and color of the visualization's borders from the drop-down lists.

  • Beginning in Strategy One (September 2025), you can adjust the Radius of rounded corners for the container.

    • Use a number between 0 and 40.

    • If the current Padding is less than 50% of the updated Radius, Padding automatically increases to match 50% of the new Radius.

  • Beginning in Strategy One (November 2025), you can apply a Shadow effect on the container. Select the fill color and opacity of the shadow. Define the shadow effects using the following options:

    • Blur: Controls the softness of the edge to diffuse or spread out the shadow. The range is from 0 to 40, where 0 is a sharply defined line and 40 is the most blurred.

    • Distance: Offsets the shadow from the container. Distance provides a 3D look, implying hierarchy or focus.

    • Angle: Sets the direction of the shadow around the container, measured in degrees. For example, to display the shadow:

      • Directly on the right, use 0.

      • On the bottom and right, use 45.

      • Below the container, use 90.

      • On the top, use 270.
