Creating a New Page

This topic provides step-by-step instructions on creating a new MicroStrategy Web page by copying from an existing MicroStrategy Web page or inheriting properties from an existing MicroStrategy Web page. To achieve the same task without using the Edit/Create Wizard, see Duplicating a Page. You can also create a new empty page where you define most of the page properties.

  1. Launch the Edit/Create Page Wizard (Create).

  2. Select either Add a new page by copying from or Add a new page by inheriting from, as appropriate. The option Edit the following Page is used to edit an existing page.

  3. Select the MicroStrategy Web page to be edited from the drop-down menu next to the radio button you selected in the previous step.

  4. Click Next.

  5. Enter a name and description for the new page in the Name and Description text boxes, respectively.

  6. Click Next.

  7. Select the page statuses for which the page will have distinct templates by selecting the check box next to each status listed.

  8. Click Next.

  9. If you need to modify templates, perform the following steps for each template that you need to modify.

    1. Select the template to modify from the drop-down menu.
    2. Click on each section that needs to be replaced, one at a time. After clicking each section, you will be prompted to select a .ASCX web user control file to substitute for the default. This file contains the specifications for the template section.
  10. Click Next.

  11. Select the toolbars to be displayed on the page.

  12. Click Next.

  13. Indicate whether the page is to display menus by selecting either Yes or  No.

  14. Click Next.

  15. Click Finish. The new page is created and opens on the right, displaying the Basic Properties tab. To define additional properties for this page, refer to Page Content and Layout Manipulations for instructions.

  16. Save your changes.
