MicroStrategy ONE

Storing Information: the Data Warehouse

The data warehouse is the foundation that your MicroStrategy system is built on. It stores all the information you and your users analyze with the MicroStrategy system. This information is usually placed or loaded in the data warehouse using some sort of extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) process. Your online transaction processing (OLTP) system is usually the main source of original data used by the ETL process. Projects in one metadata can have different data warehouses and one project can have more than one data warehouse.

As a system administrator, you need to know which relational database management system (RDBMS) manages your data warehouse, how the MicroStrategy system accesses it (which machine it is on and which ODBC driver and Data Source Name it uses to connect to it), and what should happen when the data warehouse is loaded (such as running scripts to invalidate certain caches in Intelligence Server, and so on).
