Validate: allows you to confirm that a given subtotal definition is valid for use by the MicroStrategy engine.

Tools menu

The Tools menu contains one option, Apply to Metrics, which allows you to add the user-defined subtotal to multiple metrics at one time. Once a subtotal is applied to a metric, the subtotal is available to any report that contains the metric. Before this option becomes available, you must name and save the subtotal.

When you click Apply to Metrics, the Select Metrics dialog box opens. From the list of Available objects, select the metric or metrics with which to associate the subtotal. Click the right arrow to move them to the Selected objects column. You can use the Find box at the bottom of the Available objects list to search for a specific metric. For more information on user-defined subtotals, including directions to create them, see Creating user-defined subtotals. For more information on applying them to metrics, see Applying user-defined subtotals to metrics.

  • The Metric Editor has similar functionality. It allows you to make subtotals available to only the metric you are editing. The Subtotal Editor allows you to apply the same subtotal to a number of metrics.

  • Even if a user-defined subtotal has not been applied to a particular metric, you can still select it as the total subtotal function and/or the dynamic aggregation function. For more information on using subtotals in a metric, see Metric Editor: Subtotals/Aggregation tab.
