Creating an embedded report filter in a report
A report is the result of a request for specific, formatted data from the data warehouse. It consists of a template plus any desired filtering conditions. A template specifies which information is to be retrieved and how the results are displayed. A filter specifies the conditions that the data must meet in order to be included in the report results.
You can apply a filter qualification to a report in either of the following ways:
-
Create a filter at the same time that you create a new report. This filter is embedded within the report and cannot be used in another report. This procedure is below.
-
Apply a previously created, stand-alone filter to a report during report creation. For instructions, see Adding a filter to a report.
To create an embedded report filter in a report
-
Open the report in the Report Editor. (How?)
-
If the Report Filter window is not displayed, select Report Filter Definition from the View menu.
-
In the Report Filter window, click Double-click here to add a qualification. The Filtering Options dialog box opens.
-
Select one of the following options and click OK:
-
Add a Set qualification
-
Add an Advanced qualification
The instructions for the above options include saving the qualification. You cannot name and save the qualification independently when you create a Report Filter through the Report Editor. Instead, it is embedded within the report and cannot be used in another report. For more information on embedded filters, see the Advanced Reporting Help.
If you are creating a Report Filter for an MDX cube report that accesses SAP BW, Analysis Services, Essbase, or TM1 you can convert the filter to a prompt.
