Metric Editor Formula tab: Condition advanced options

The Condition advanced options dialog box allows you to set the interaction between the metric filter and the report filter, through the following options:

  • Embedding method: Merging the report filter and metric filter is a two-stage process—the report filter is evaluated, then the report filter is merged with the metric filter. The merge occurs by embedding one filter in the other or by embedding both in a new filter. The options in the drop-down list set how the filters are merged:

  • Merge into new intersects the metric filter and report filter.

  • Merge report filter into metric, which is the default setting, applies the report filter criteria to the data. Then the metric filter is applied to the resulting data.

  • Merge metric condition into report evaluates the metric filter first and then applies the report filter to those results.

  • Remove related report filter elements: By default, this check box is selected since metric filters ignore related report conditionality by default. This means that the parts of the report filter that are related to parts of the metric filter are ignored when the metric filter is evaluated. If you clear this setting, the report filter is not altered, which creates an intersection of the report and metric filter conditions.

When you create a conditional metric, you may want to calculate the metric so that elements that are common to both the metric filter and the report filter are ignored. Alternatively, you may want these common elements to be included. This setting provides that flexibility in conditional metric calculations.

Related elements are those elements belonging to any attribute having a parent-child relationship with the attribute on which you are placing conditions. You can use the Hierarchy Viewer to ensure that the attributes in your filters are not related.

  • Remember option setting: Select this check box to save your selections as defaults.
