Signing in to Box by Scanning a QR Code

Box users can log in using their smartphones to scan a QR code displayed on the computer screen. After you integrate the web application with MicroStrategy Identity, the Box login page displays a QR code.

The following steps contain only the information required to configure or use Box with MicroStrategy Identity. The information provided is subject to change. See the appropriate third-party documentation for the latest information.

You own the Box Business or Box Enterprise product.

To log into Box with MicroStrategy Identity, the email address associated with each user's Box account must match the email address associated with the user's badge.

To display a custom image on the Box login page, you must create the image to display. Supported image formats are .png, .jpeg, and .jpg files.

If your Box users are populated from an identity management (IDM) system such as Microsoft Active Directory or OpenLDAP, MicroStrategy recommends that you add users to your Identity Network by synchronizing MicroStrategy Identity with the same IDM system as Box. This helps add user information to MicroStrategy Identity and may be easier than adding users manually or by importing a file. For steps, see Synchronizing Users from Microsoft Active Directory or Synchronizing Users from OpenLDAP.

To Integrate Box with MicroStrategy Identity

  1. Log into MicroStrategy Identity Manager.
  1. Click Logical Gateways.
  2. Under Web Application Login, click More, then click Box.
  3. You can upload the image to be displayed on your Box login page. Next to the image preview, click Import An Icon. Select an image to display, then click Open.
  4. In the Enter Display Name field, provide a name to display on your Box login page. The name can be up to 30 characters long.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Note the value provided for Login URL. This information is needed to configure Box.
  7. To enable Box to work with MicroStrategy Identity, upload Box to a MicroStrategy Identity provider metadata file that configures the SAML (Security Assertion Markup Language) single sign-on settings for MicroStrategy Identity. Click MicroStrategy Identity Metadata to download the Identity metadata .xml file. Note the location on your computer where the metadata .xml file is saved.
  8. Click Done.
  9. Provide the Login URL and the metadata .xml file to your Box Technical Support representative. Box uses this information to complete the configuration.
