Integrating Tyco C-CURE 9000 with MicroStrategy Identity

To provide access to locations that are secured with Tyco C-CURE 9000, integrate your Tyco system with MicroStrategy Identity.

You integrate Tyco C-CURE with Identity through a Windows-based web service that communicates to the Tyco C-CURE physical access control system server. The web service that performs this role is called the adapter.

You can also secure the adapter by completing an optional step that ensures that only MicroStrategy Identity Server communicates with the adapter. This process is included in the steps below.

When Tyco C-CURE successfully connects to MicroStrategy Identity, each physical access point secured by Tyco C-CURE is loaded into the Identity Server as a digital key. To control which users have permission to unlock each physical access point, you must manage user permissions in Tyco C-CURE. You can customize how keys are displayed to users in their MicroStrategy Badge app. For examples and steps to customize keys, see Managing Physical Access Keys.

After installing the adapter, you can check that it is installed correctly, configure advanced settings, verify that the adapter is running, and perform other troubleshooting tasks. For steps, see the following:

  • Your Tyco C-Cure 9000 system meets the following requirements:
    • Tyco C-CURE 9000 server version 2.40
    • Tyco C-CURE 9000 web services option (Tyco part number CC9000-WEBSVC) is installed and configured
  • To create the Tyco adapter, the server that hosts the adapter must meet the following requirements:
    • Red Hat® Linux® (64-bit) operating system
    • Apache Tomcat web server version 8.0.0 or later
    • Java SE Development Kit (JDK) version 1.7 or later, 64-bit. You must set your JAVA_HOME environment variable. For example, use the command export JAVA_HOME=/usr/java/jdk1.8.0_60/jre. For steps, see your third-party documentation.
  • You must create a database for the Tyco adapter to log adapter activity and errors. The database must meet the following requirements:
    • MySQL Community Server 5.6.23
    • MySQL Connector JDBC driver 5.1.22 (x86)
    • You have an account that can create and write to the database
  • Gather the following information:
    • The Tomcat directory that will host the Tyco adapter
    • The IP address or name of the machine that will host the Tyco adapter
    • The port number used to access the Tyco C-Cure 9000 server
    • The field in the Tyco C-CURE 9000 user repository used to look up Tyco C-CURE 9000 users. This may be person ID, employee ID, email address, or similar. The field must hold a value that is unique for each person.
    • A user name and password for an account that has associated administrator access to Tyco C-CURE 9000. This account is used to create parallel connections between the Tyco C-CURE 9000 server and the Identity adapter, to improve performance.
    • Connection information for the database space that you created for the adapter log, including the IP address, port number, database name, user name, and password.
  • If users were added to your Identity Network by entering their information manually or by importing a comma-separated values (CSV) file, you must meet the following requirements:
    • You must have a MicroStrategy Cloud implementation.
    • The field in your Tyco C-CURE system that is used to look up identified Tyco C-CURE users must correspond to a field in the user's Identity profile. For steps to add users to your network and provide information for Identity user profile fields, see Adding Users Manually or Adding Users from a CSV File.

To Enable Physical Access with MicroStrategy Identity to Locations Secured by Tyco C-CURE

  1. Log into MicroStrategy Identity Manager:
    1. Navigate to the Identity Manager home page.
    2. On your smartphone, open the MicroStrategy Badge app and scan the displayed QR code.
  2. Click Physical Gateways.
  3. Under Building Access, click the Tyco icon.
  4. Click Download Identity Adapter for Tyco. The UsherAdapterforTyco.tar.gz file is downloaded.
  5. To install the adapter, on the machine hosting the Tyco C-CURE adapter, open a terminal window and do the following:
    1. Change directories to the folder where the UsherAdapterforTyco.tar.gz file is located. For example, type the command cd /root/Downloads/.
    2. Extract the installer by typing tar -xvf UsherAdapterforTyco.tar.gz.
    3. Change directories to the folder where the installer is located by typing cd UsherTycoAdapter.
    4. Make the setup files executable by typing chmod -R a+x *.
    5. Execute the adapter setup files by typing ./setup.sh. The Tyco adapter installation wizard opens.
  6. Review the information on the Welcome screen, then click Next.
  7. Review the license agreement, and accept or decline the agreement by selecting the appropriate option. If you decline, you cannot install the Tyco C-CURE adapter. Once you have accepted the license agreement, click Next.
  8. In the Tomcat Base Directory field, type the folder within the Tomcat directory where you want to install the adapter
  9. Select the Restart the Tomcat server after the adapter has been installed check box.
  10. Click Next.
  11. To specify the settings for your Tyco C-CURE adapter, do the following:
    1. For the Protocol option, select whether you want communication between the adapter and the Tyco C-CURE server to use HTTP or HTTPS.
    2. In the Base URL field, type the base URL for your Tyco C-CURE web service, as described in the Integrating Tyco C-CURE 9000 with MicroStrategy Identity.
    3. In the Domain Name field, type the name of your Tyco C-CURE server, as described in the Integrating Tyco C-CURE 9000 with MicroStrategy Identity.
    4. In the User Name and Password fields, type the user account name and password for a user that has administrative access to your Tyco C-CURE server, as described in the Integrating Tyco C-CURE 9000 with MicroStrategy Identity.
    5. In the Cache Refresh Interval field, type the amount of time between automatic cache refreshes, in seconds. By refreshing the adapter cache, any changes in users, portals, or permissions will take effect in MicroStrategy Identity. The default is 1800 seconds (30 minutes).
    6. Click Next.
  12. To configure the database for your adapter log, do the following:
    1. In the Server and Port fields, type the IP address and port number of the database that you prepared for the adapter log, as described in the Integrating Tyco C-CURE 9000 with MicroStrategy Identity.
    2. In the User Name and Password fields, type the user name and password for the database that you prepared for the adapter log, as described in the Integrating Tyco C-CURE 9000 with MicroStrategy Identity.
    3. In the Database field, type the name of the adapter log database. For example, tyco_schema.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Review your settings, then click Start to begin the installation. The adapter is installed.
  15. Click Finish to close the wizard.
    The adapter settings are saved in the tyco_adapters.json configuration file, in the /UsherAdapter folder in the Tomcat directory.
  16. Return to MicroStrategy Identity Manager, then click Next.
  17. Provide the following information:
    • Configuration Name (required): A descriptive name for this connection to the Tyco C-CURE system. This is the name that you see in MicroStrategy Identity Manager.
    • Adapter Server URL (required): URL of the Tyco C-CURE adapter server, such as http://IPaddress:port, http://hostname:port, or https://hostname:port.
    • Adapter Service Path (required): Path of the Tyco C-CURE adapter.
    • User ID Mapping (required): The field to use to look up identified Tyco C-CURE users.
      If the users in your network are added manually or by importing a comma-separated values (CSV) file, type the Identity profile field that contains information used to look up identified Tyco C-CURE users, as described in the Integrating Tyco C-CURE 9000 with MicroStrategy Identity. Select from the following fields:
      • If Tyco C-CURE users are identified by their first name, type first_name.
      • If Tyco C-CURE users are identified by their last name, type last_name.
      • If Tyco C-CURE users are identified by their email address, type email.
      • If Tyco C-CURE users are identified by their title, type title.
      • If Tyco C-CURE users are identified by an alternate value that you provided when you added users to your Identity Network, type user_name.
    • SSL Bypass: By default, communication is encrypted with secure sockets layer (SSL). To use plain, unencrypted communication between the adapter and Identity, type true. MicroStrategy recommends that you leave this as the default; do not bypass SSL unless you are testing.
  18. Click Refresh. When Identity successfully connects to the adapter, a green check mark is displayed.
  19. Click Next. The keys in your Tyco C-CURE system are loaded into MicroStrategy Identity.
  20. To secure the adapter by verifying that the adapter communicates with MicroStrategy Identity Server, you can create a certificate for MicroStrategy Identity Server. To do this, click Support to contact MicroStrategy and request help creating a certificate.
