Steps to format the background in documents

Prerequisite

This procedure assumes you have already accessed the Format Objects dialog box in the Document Editor. For information on formatting the background in reports, see To format the background.

Background formatting applies only to HTML containers using HTML text, not iFrame. For the HTML text type, the Font and Forecolor properties overwrite any formatting provided in the HTML code. For the iFrame type, the Font and Forecolor properties do not apply to the content of the website displayed by the URL. For examples, see Formatting HTML containers.

To format the alignment

On the Background tab, the Background style determines which other properties are available.

  1. To use a single, solid color as the background:

    • Set the Background style to Solid.

    • Use the Fill color drop-down list to select the background color of the object.

  2. To use a gradient color, which blends two colors in a gradual color change in the background:

    • Set the Background style to Gradient.

    • Use the Color 1 drop-down list to select the first color to apply to the object.

    • Use the Color 2 drop-down list to select the second color to apply. Color 1 and Color 2 are blended together.

    • Click one of the squares to set the direction of the shading between the two colors. The colors can blend left to right, right to left, top to bottom, bottom to top, horizontally centered, or vertically centered.

If you choose Horizontal centered or Vertical centered, you are applying a three-way or mirror gradient, which can be displayed in Flash Mode (MicroStrategy Web) only. In other MicroStrategy Web view modes and in MicroStrategy Developer, three-way gradients are rendered as non-mirrored gradients. For more information, see Applying three-way (mirror) gradients.

  3. To allow what is behind the object to show through:

    • Set the Background style to Transparent.

    • As you make changes, the Sample area changes to show a preview of your selections.

  4. Click OK to return to the document.
