Query Builder reports versus standard reports

After you finish defining a Query Builder report in the Query Builder Editor, the report can be manipulated in the Report Editor. You create Query Builder reports in MicroStrategy Developer, but you can view Query Builder reports in MicroStrategy Developer and Web.

Most of the functionalities for regular reports are still available for Query Builder reports, for example:

  • Advanced sorting

  • Attribute display

  • Autostyle

  • Caching

  • Export options

  • Filtering

  • Value prompts

  • Formatting

  • View filter

  • Threshold

  • Narrowcast Server subscriptions and report execution

  • Object security

  • OLAP services

  • Prioritization

  • Report Services documents

  • Scheduling

  • Report as filter

  • Subtotals

The following functionalities are available for use with Query Builder reports if an attribute and fact schema is used to model the data returned from your queries:

  • Element list prompts

  • Security filters

However, due to the nature of Query Builder reports, the following functionalities cannot be used with a Query Builder report:

  • Custom groups

  • Consolidations

  • Transformations

  • Existing filters

  • Save as template

  • Data marting
