Additional Information on Image Size and Position

The PowerPoint plugin uses a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get logic so the imported image maintains its size and layout, as seen in the dashboard or document. For best results, and depending on selected settings, see the following:

  • The size and position of the imported images is determined when you select them in the embedded Library window. Any changes to an object after it has been selected (for example, updating the window size to force the images to rescale), will not be reflected in the imported image.

  • The resize logic of the plugin is based on a default-sized PowerPoint slide (13.33 x 7.5 inches). Depending on the operating system this amounts to:

    • Windows: 1280 x 720 pixels

    • Mac: 960 x 540 pixels

  • The Remember placement toggle in the Import section in the plugin settings selects one of two position workflows:

    1. Remember placement toggle is off:

      • All images will be placed in the center of the slide

      • If needed, each image scales down individually to fit on the slide

    2. Remember placement toggle is on:

      • All images are placed on the slide in a way that reflects the image position in the embedded Library window seen during the import process. Therefore, multiple imported visualizations should maintain their relative position to each other.

      • All visualizations will be scaled down, using the same ratio, so that the whole visualization page or RSD layout fits on the slide.

  • Depending on the configured view settings in the imported dashboard, the embedded Library window that is visible during the import process will behave differently, which may impact the size and position of the imported image. To update the view setting, in dashboard authoring mode, click Format > Dashboard Formatting > Lock page size for web and tablets and choose one of the following modes in Consumption view:

    • Fit to View, Fill the View, or no lock page selection: In these modes, the dashboard that is visible in the embedded Library window will be responsive. Therefore, in most cases, the layout and content of the dashboard will try to adjust the current size of the window. Each image imported into PowerPoint will have identical dimensions as in the embedded Library window.

To achieve visually identical sizes, the PowerPoint zoom must be set to 100%.

Some dashboard settings (for example, assigning minimum size to grid elements) may interfere with the dashboard responsive behavior during import.

    • Zoom to 100%: Maintain the original size of the dashboard during import, regardless of the embedded Library window size. Therefore, dashboards that exceed the size of the window will have visible scroll bars. When importing images in this mode, the original visualization size is used.

In some cases, this dashboard setting interferes with the Remember placement option which may cause improper image placement.
