Sorting Reports and Documents by Error Messages

Reports and documents that fail to execute are listed in the Results Summary area of Integrity Manager with a status of Error. Integrity Manager supports custom tagging for the error messages to make it easy to sort by type of error.

  • If several reports/documents generate errors, you can group all the Error reports/documents together in the list by clicking the Status column header in the Results Summary area.
  • To view the error message for a specific report/document, select it in the Results Summary area and click the Details tab in the Report Data area. The error message is listed in the Execution Details section of the report details.
  • You may want to tag these reports/documents by the type of error that they have generated. Custom tagging enables you to specify a string that can be found in the Execution Details. When a report/document completes execution with an error, Integrity Manager checks the Execution Details section. If the text corresponding to a tag is found in the Execution Details, that tag is added to the report.
  • These tags are listed in the Results Summary area, in the Custom Tags (base) and Custom Tags (target) columns. If these columns are not visible, right-click any column header in the Results Summary area and select the columns that you want to view.

For example, after executing a large single-project integrity test overnight, you notice that many of the reports have errors. Some of these errors are related to the database connection, and some are due to malformed SQL. In the Define Custom Tags dialog box, you create two tags: one searches the Execution Details for "Connection" and tags the reports Connection Error, and one searches for "SQL" and tags the reports SQL Error. The tags are listed in the Custom Tags (base) column in the Results Summary area. To sort by the tags, click the Custom Tags (base) column header. All the reports with a connection error are now grouped together, followed by all the reports with a SQL error, and then all other reports.
  • If a report/document matches more than one tag, all the tags are listed in the Custom Tags column. The tags are separated by the characters in the Tag delimiter field.
  • If you are executing a performance test and a report generates errors on several different execution cycles, the Custom Tags columns list any tag that is matched in any execution cycle. To continue the example above, if a report generates a connection error in the first cycle and a SQL error in the second, that report is tagged with both Connection Error and SQL Error.

To Create Tags for Error Messages

  1. Integrity Manager > View > Custom Tags. The Define Custom Tags dialog box opens.
  2. In the Text column, enter the error message text that you want to tag.
  3. In the Tag column, enter the tag to apply to reports containing that text.
  4. In the Tag Delimiter field, enter the characters that separate different tags in the Custom Tags columns.
  5. To change the order of the tags, select a tag and click Up Up or Down Down .
  6. Click OK. If the results of a test are currently in the main Integrity Manager window, the tags are applied immediately to all reports/documents with a Status of Error.

To Sort the Reports by the Error Message Tags

  • To view the tags, right-click a column header in the Results Summary area and select either or both Custom Tags columns.
  • To sort by the tags on the base project, click the Custom Tags (base) column header. To sort in reverse order, click again.
  • To sort by the tags on the target project, click the Custom Tags (target) column header. To sort in reverse order, click again.
