Creating a New Visualization

This topic provides step-by-step instructions on a new visualization.

  1. Launch the Web Customization Editor.

  2. Click on MicroStrategy Web Configuration inside the Application Settings view to expand the hierarchical tree. The expanded list comprises the different settings that can be modified to perform customizations.

  3. Click Visualization Settings to view to expand the hierarchical tree. The expanded list comprises the different lists of visualizations to which you can add visualizations.

This setting is displayed in the Application Settings view only if the setting is checked in the Show Advanced Options section of MicroStrategy Preferences.

  4. Double-click the visualization list to which you wish to add a visualization. The Visualization Settings and Properties tab of the page gets displayed.

  5. Click the Add... button to select a style from the Style Catalog Configuration file that will be used to render this visualization (presentation of report data) on the client-side. This style is different from the Property Editor Style which is responsible for rendering the Properties Editor for this visualization.

Only one style can be used per visualization. If there are no styles available for a visualization, clicking the Add... button presents an option to create a new style using the Style Creation Wizard.

  6. Select a style from the drop-down menu for Style Name and click OK. The selected style gets added as the last element in the text area under Visualization Name. The style is also displayed in the Style Name test box next to the Visualization Name text area.

  7. Select the appropriate scope for the visualization. A scope indicates where the visualization will be applied.

  8. Enter a description and descriptor ID for the new visualization in the Description and Description ID text boxes respectively.

  9. In the Projects text box, select the MicroStrategy projects for which this visualization should be available. Names of multiple projects can be separated by the vertical bar symbol (also called the pipe symbol), |. To make the visualization available for all projects, leave the text box empty.

  10. Enter the number of minimum secondary providers, if used in the Document, in the text box for Minimum Secondary Data Providers.

  11. Enter the number of maximum secondary providers, if used in the Document, in the text box for Maximum Secondary Data Providers.

  12. The Image text box is a reserved property and can be left empty.

  13. From the Property Editor Style drop-down menu, select a style that will render the Properties Editor for this visualization.

  14. Save your changes.
