Create, Edit, and Delete Standalone Database Connections, Database Logins, and Vault Connections

MicroStrategy ONE (March 2024) streamlines the ability to create, edit, and delete standalone database connections and logins. You must have the following privileges to manage database connections and logins:

  • Configure project data source

  • Create configuration objects

  • Create and edit database Instances and connections

  • Create and edit database logins

Furthermore, MicroStrategy ONE (September 2024) introduces the ability to create, edit, and delete vault connections. It facilitates the creation of database logins based on vault secrets retrieved from CyberArk Central Credential Provider. To manage vault-based database logins, you need the Create and edit vault connections privilege.

Manage Database Connections

  1. Open the Workstation window.
  2. In the Navigation pane, click Data Sources.

  3. Click Database Connections to view all standalone connection objects.

  4. Here you can add a new database connection, export the grid to CSV, or filter the grid by Name, Type, Driver, or Login.
  5. To edit or delete a connection object, right-click it and choose Edit or Delete.

  6. To view general properties, the change journal, or security access for modifying ACLs, right-click a connection object and choose Properties.

Manage Database Logins

  1. Click Database Logins to view all standalone login objects.

  2. Here you can export the grid to CSV or filter the grid by Name.

  3. To add a new database login, click Add New Database Login.

  4. If you are using a standard database login, disable the Use Vault toggle, complete the remaining fields, and click Save.

  5. If you are using a vault secret-based database login, enable the Use Vault toggle. Before creating vault secret-based database logins, you should create vault connections first. Once you are finished, click Save.

  6. To edit or delete a database login, right-click it in the grid and choose Edit or Delete.

  7. To view general properties, the change journal, or security access for modifying ACLs, right-click a database login and choose Properties.

    Secret Name is also called Account Name in CyberArk Vault. See CyberArk’s official documentation for more details.

Manage Vault Connections

  1. Click Vault Connections to view all vault connections.

  2. To add a new vault connection, click Add New Vault Connection. Complete the required fields and click Save.

  3. To edit or delete a vault connection object, right-click it in the grid and choose Edit or Delete.

  4. To view general properties, the change journal, or security access for modifying ACLs, right-click a vault connection object and choose Properties.

    CyberArk Central Credential Provider may utilize caching for improved performance. See CyberArk’s official documentation for more details. If caching is enabled, run the following command to refresh the cache after adding or updating database credentials in CyberArk.
