Introduction to Page Caches

Considering users may switch dashboard pages frequently in Library, page caches have been introduced to improve dashboard performance. Intelligence Server generates one cache for each dashboard page, so that the cache can be hit when the user switches between pages. This differs from Result Caches, which records only a partial result of the Dashboard. Result caches are generated when running a dashboard from the MicroStrategy Web interface or MicroStrategy Mobile App.

For example, you switch to page 1 of a multi-page dashboard, apply a chapter-level filter and then save the dashboard. The result cache would only record the filtered results on page 1. It doesn't record the results of other pages, so if you execute the dashboard again, the result cache is hit. However, if you switch to page 2, no cache is hit because the result cache won't include the page 2 results.

Types of Page Caches

A base dashboard page cache is a dashboard shortcut that contains:

  • No manipulations
  • Only page-switching manipulations
  • A reset dashboard shortcut

A dashboard shortcut page cache contains any manipulations other than the ones mentioned above.

A bookmark page cache is generated if the page caches are generated for a bookmark.
