Keeping or removing the parent, thresholds, across-level subtotals, and page-by on a drilled-to report

Drilling on a report by using the Drill dialog box allows you to override the following default drill settings:

  • Keeping the parent determines whether the object from which you are drilling is also displayed in the drilled-to report.

  • Keeping the threshold applies the threshold to the drilled-to report.

  • Keeping the across-level subtotals applies the across-level subtotals to the drilled-to report. Across-level subtotals are hidden only when all of the following are true:

  • Inherit across-level subtotal from parent is set to No.

  • Keep parent while drilling is set to No.

  • You drill from the object that is the level of the subtotal.

  • You can also choose whether to filter the drilled-to report by the current page-by element. Page by allows you dynamically to select report components as criteria for analysis.

For examples of all these options, see the Basic Reporting Help.

You can also right-click a report component to drill on it, but you cannot override the default drill map settings with this drilling method.

To drill on a report and override the default drill settings

  1. Run a report. (For steps to run a report, see Running a report.)

  2. From the Data menu, choose Drill. The Drill dialog box opens.

You can also select an object in the report, then open the Drill dialog box. The object is displayed in the Selected object box of the dialog box. You can also select specific rows or columns by using the Ctrl+ click feature. For example, you select the rows on which to drill. You can select an additional row by pressing Ctrl and then clicking on that row. You can clear a particular row by pressing Ctrl and then clicking on that row. Only the data from the selected rows appear in the new report.

  3. In the Selected object box, select the object on which to drill, or select Free drilling to drill in any direction in the system hierarchy.

  4. In the Drilling options box, select the direction of the drill and the object to drill to, as described below:

    • Select whether to drill Up, Down, or in Other directions. Expand that folder.

The drill map associated with the object determines which directions are available. If you selected Free drilling, the only option is Other directions.

    • Select the object to drill to.

    • For example, you drill on Region using the Tutorial Standard Drill Map. You can drill up to Country, down to Call Center, and in other directions to other hierarchies.

  5. Select an option from the Keep parent drop-down list; these options determine whether the parent is kept in the destination report. The parent is the object from which you are drilling.

    • Default uses the drill map's setting

    • Yes keeps the parent in the new report

    • No removes the parent from the new report

  6. Select an option from the Keep thresholds drop-down list:

    • Default uses the drill map's setting

    • No removes the thresholds from the new report

  7. Select an option from the Inherit across-level subtotals from parent drop-down list:

    • Default: uses the value set in the drill path.

    • Yes: keeps across-level subtotals while drilling.

    • No: prevents across-level subtotals from being displayed while drilling. You must also set Keep parent while drilling to No. Across-level subtotals are still displayed unless the user is drilling from the object that is the level of the subtotal.

  8. Select the When drilling, add the current page by element as part of the filter check box to include the selected page by element in the filter of the new report. Page by allows you dynamically to select report components as criteria for analysis.

This option is available only if page by is applied to the original report.

  9. Click OK. A new report is generated.
