MicroStrategy ONE

Printing documents

You can view the results of a document in HTML View, Flash View, or PDF View. However, you can print the document only from PDF View. (For information on HTML View and Flash View, see Previewing documents for MicroStrategy Web.)

In PDF View, which uses Adobe Acrobat Reader, the document displays as it will look when it is printed (for example, with page breaks). You can use page-by to interactively display groups on separate pages. You can also save the final PDF (by exporting it).

Before you view or print the document, specify the PDF properties and page setup options to ensure that the printed document appears as you want it to. The PDF properties control graph resolution, bookmarks, and embedded fonts. Page setup options include orientation (landscape or portrait), scaling, margins, and others. For more information on PDF properties and page setup options, including instructions, see Formatting a document for printing.

Prerequisite

To view the PDF, your computer must have Adobe Acrobat Reader version 5 or greater. This software can be obtained free of charge from the Adobe website, at www.Adobe.com.

To view a document as it will be printed (PDF View)

To enhance PDF viewing performance, open Acrobat Reader before switching to PDF View.

Do one of the following to open the document in PDF View:

  • In MicroStrategy Developer, double-click the document to be viewed.

  • If the document is already displayed in Design View (the Document Editor), either:

  • Click PDF View on the toolbar.

  • Select PDF from the View menu.

Occasionally, lines with the same line weight specified in the Document Editor may not appear to have the same thickness when viewed in the Acrobat Reader at a standard zoom percent. The lines will print as defined in the Document Editor, however, despite this rendering issue with Adobe. Typically, the viewing problem can be alleviated by using the Zoom In feature (increasing the zoom %) on the PDF. The lines display with the same thickness on the screen. For more information about Reader and this issue with Reader, see Reader's product documentation.

      • If the document is not open, in MicroStrategy Developer, double-click the document to be viewed.

  2. Click Print on the toolbar. The Print dialog box opens.

  3. Change any settings as necessary.

  4. Click OK.
