Adding a prompt to the Template definition pane in the Report Editor

You can add object prompts to the Template definition pane of the Report Editor.

A prompt is a question the system presents to a user during report execution. How the user answers the question determines what data is displayed on the report when the results are returned from your data source. Prompts are an effective way to design a single report that can support a broad user audience, since each user can designate the specific information that they want to see.

This procedure assumes you have already created and saved a prompt. For steps to create an object prompt, see Filtering based on metrics, attributes, or other objects: Object prompts.

For information on how each type of prompt can be added to a report, see the table in About adding a prompt to a report.

To add a prompt to the Template definition pane in the Report Editor

  1. If you are creating a new report, open the Report Editor. If you are adding the prompt to an existing report, open the report in the Report Editor.

  2. Use the Object Browser on the left to locate the prompt that you want to add to the report.

    • If the Object Browser is not displayed, from the View menu select Object Browser.

  3. Drag and drop the prompt onto the Template definition pane.

  4. Add more prompts or other objects to the report if desired.

  5. If you want to see what your report looks like when executed against the data source, and if you want to see how a prompt works for a user, once your report has one or more attributes and metrics in it and you have added prompt, from the View menu select Grid View.

  6. Save the report.
