Creating Custom Installation Packages

You can reduce the amount of data that has to be downloaded for an installation by providing only the files required to complete a Strategy One installation. This technique can then be used to reduce the amount of data packaged and downloaded for other Strategy One installations within your organization.

The steps below show you how to create these custom installation packages.

Create a Custom Strategy Installation Package

  1. Retrieve the Strategy installation files from the installation disk or the Strategy download site. Save these files to a folder. Contact your Strategy sales representative to determine the location and login credentials for the MicroStrategy download site.
  2. Within the location where you saved the Strategy installation files, browse to the DataFiles folder.
  3. You can determine the required installation files in the following ways:

    • For Windows installations, you can use the Strategy Installation Wizard to determine the required files, as described in Determine the required installation files for Windows installation.

Determine the required installation files for Windows installation

  1. Move all of the compressed .mcf files within this folder to a different folder location.
  2. Use the Strategy Installation Wizard to begin a Strategy installation. For steps to locate and use the Strategy Installation Wizard, see Installing Strategy on Windows.
  3. Complete the steps up to and including the step to select the Strategy One components to be installed.
  4. After selecting the Strategy One components to be installed and clicking Next, a message is displayed that lists the required installation files. Store all of these files in a location that can be accessed by the machine that will use the custom installation package.
  5. Click Cancel.
