Signing in to Zendesk by Scanning a QR Code

Zendesk® users can log in using their smartphones to scan a QR code displayed on the computer screen. After you integrate the web application with MicroStrategy Identity, the Zendesk login page displays a QR code.

The following steps contain only the information required to configure or use Zendesk with MicroStrategy Identity. The information provided is subject to change. See the appropriate third-party documentation for the latest information.

You own the Zendesk Enterprise or the Zendesk Plus product.

You have administrative privileges for Zendesk.

To display a custom image on the Zendesk login page, you must create the image to display. Supported image formats are .png, .jpeg, and .jpg files.

If your Zendesk users are populated from an Identity Management (IDM) system such as Microsoft Active Directory or OpenLDAP, MicroStrategy recommends that you add users to your badge by synchronizing MicroStrategy Identity with the same IDM system as Zendesk. This helps add user information to MicroStrategy Identity and may be easier than adding users manually or by importing a file. For steps, see Synchronizing Users from Microsoft Active Directory or ;Synchronizing Users from OpenLDAP.

To Register Zendesk with MicroStrategy Identity

  1. Log into MicroStrategy Identity Manager.
  2. Click Logical Gateways.
  3. Under Web Application Login, click More, then click Zendesk.
  4. You can upload the image to be displayed on your Zendesk login page. Next to the image preview, click Import an Icon. Select an image to display, then click Open.
  5. In the Enter Display Name field, provide a name to display on your Zendesk login page. The name can be up to 30 characters long.
  6. In the Subdomain field, enter the subdomain of your Zendesk support website. For example, if your Zendesk support website is https://yourcompany.zendesk.com, enter the subdomain yourcompany.
  7. Click Next.
  8. In a new browser window or tab, log in to Zendesk with an administrative account.
  9. Open the Admin section, then open Security.
  10. Depending on whether you want to enable Zendesk administrators and agents, or Zendesk end users, to sign in with MicroStrategy Identity, select the Admins & Agents tab or the End-users tab.
  11. Select Single sign-on (SSO), then select the SAML check box. Provide the following values:
    • SAML SSO URL: Enter the value for SAML SSO URL provided in MicroStrategy Identity Manager.
    • Certificate Fingerprint: Enter the value for Certificate Fingerprint provided in MicroStrategy Identity Manager.
    • Remote Logout URL: Enter the value for Remote Logout URL provided in MicroStrategy Identity Manager. When Zendesk users sign out, they are redirected to this URL.
  12. Save your settings.
  13. In the MicroStrategy Identity Manager page, click Done.

As a backup method, Zendesk agents and administrators in your Identity Network can sign in to Zendesk by entering their user name and password, instead of using the MicroStrategy Badge app. To log in, users should visit https://subdomain.zendesk.com/access/normal, where subdomain is the subdomain of your Zendesk support website. For example, https://yourcompany.zendesk.com/access/normal.
