Signing in to Asana by Scanning a QR Code

Asana users can log in using their smartphones to scan a QR code displayed on the computer screen. After you integrate the web application with MicroStrategy Identity, the Asana login page displays a QR code.

The following steps contain only the information required to configure or use Asana with MicroStrategy Identity. See the appropriate third-party documentation for the latest information.

You belong to an Asana Premium Organization.

You have administrative privileges for your Organization.

To display a custom image on the Asana login page, you must create the image to display. Supported image formats are .png, .jpeg, and .jpg files.

If your Asana users are populated from an identity management (IDM) system such as Microsoft Active Directory or OpenLDAP, MicroStrategy recommends that you add users to your Identity Network by synchronizing MicroStrategy Identity with the same IDM system as Asana. This helps add user information to MicroStrategy Identity and may be easier than adding users manually or by importing a file. For steps, see Synchronizing Users from Microsoft Active Directory or Synchronizing Users from OpenLDAP.

To Integrate Asana with MicroStrategy Identity

  1. Log into MicroStrategy Identity Manager.
  2. Click Logical Gateways.
  3. Under Web Application Login, click More, then click Asana.
  4. You can upload the image to be displayed on your Asana login page. Next to the image preview, click Import An Icon. Select an image to display, then click Open.
  5. In the Enter Display Name field, provide a name to display on your Asana login page. The name can be up to 30 characters long.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Note the value provided for Login URL. You will use this information to configure Asana.
  8. Click MicroStrategy Identity Security Certificate to download the Identity security certificate (for example, saml2.crt). Note the location on your computer where the certificate is saved.
  9. In a new browser window or tab, log in to Asana with an administrative account.
  10. From the drop-down list next to your user name, open Organization Settings, then open Administration.
  11. Select Members must log in via SAML, then edit the settings by providing the following values:
    • Sign-in page URL: Type the value for Login URL provided in MicroStrategy Identity Manager.
    • X.509 Certificate: In a text editor such as Notepad, open the Identity security certificate file that you downloaded from MicroStrategy Identity Manager. Copy the contents of the security certificate, omitting the Begin certificate header and End certificate footer, then paste it into the X.509 Certificate field in Asana.
  12. Save your settings.
  13. In the MicroStrategy Identity Manager page, click Done.

To log in to Asana, users can type their email address in the Asana login page and leave the password field blank. When they click Log in, a QR code is displayed. Users scan the QR code using the MicroStrategy Badge app on their smartphone, and are logged in to Asana.
