Integrating AMAG Symmetry with MicroStrategy Identity
To provide access to locations that are secured with AMAG Symmetry, integrate your AMAG system with MicroStrategy Identity.
Integrating AMAG Symmetry with MicroStrategy Identity is done through a Windows-based web service that communicates to the AMAG physical access control system server. The web service that performs this role is called the adapter.
Follow the steps below to integrate your AMAG Symmetry system. You can also secure the adapter by completing an optional step that ensures that only Identity Server communicates with the adapter. This process is included in the steps below.
When AMAG successfully connects, each physical access point secured by AMAG is loaded into Identity Server as a digital key. To control which users have permission to unlock each physical access point, you must manage user permissions in AMAG Symmetry. You can customize how keys are displayed to users in their MicroStrategy Badge app. For examples and steps to customize keys, see Managing physical access keys.
Windows Server® 2008 R2 operating system or later (64-bit)
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) version 7.0 or later with HTTPS binding enabled
Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.0 (64-bit) or later
MySQL server 5.5 or later with connection information and appropriate permissions
HTTPS is enabled on your AMAG Symmetry server
If the server hosting your AMAG Symmetry adapter has Microsoft Windows Server 2012 and Microsoft IIS 8.5 or later, you must enable the HTTP Activation feature for Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) so the adapter operates properly with MicroStrategy Identity.
In Microsoft Server Manager for IIS, the following must be selected:
- .NET Framework 4.5 Features
- WCF Services
- HTTP Activation
You need the following:
- The hostname of the server hosting AMAG Symmetry
- Administrative privileges for AMAG Symmetry
- The information used to look up identified AMAG users, such as their email or employee ID
- If users were added to your Identity Network by entering their information manually or by importing a comma-separated values (CSV) file, you must meet the following requirement:
- The field in your AMAG Symmetry system that is used to look up identified AMAG users must correspond to a field in the user's MicroStrategy Identity profile. For steps to add users to your network and provide information for user profile fields, see Adding users manually or Adding users from a CSV file.
To Install the AMAG Adapter
- Navigate to the MicroStrategy software download site. Under Add-ons and Tools, select the AMAG Symmetry adapter installer. Click to download and note the location where the file is saved.
- Navigate to the installation file and click to launch the
ushersymmetryadapter.exe
. - Click Next. The Identity Adapter Configuration screen displays.
- Enter the connection information for the MySQL database instance you want to use:
Hostname: The IP address for your database
Port: The port number for your database
User: The username for your database
Password: If your database is password protected, enter your password here.
Database: The name of your database. If your database does not have a name, this field is automatically populated with a generic name.
- Click Next. The installer verifies the database credentials and if the credentials are excepted, the Identity Adapter Configuration page opens.
- Enter the connection information for your AMAG server:
Hostname: The hostname of your AMAG server
Port: The port number for the AMAG server
User: The Administrator username for the AMAG server
Password: The password to the Administrator account for the AMAG server
Company: Your company name that must match the name specified in the Administrator configuration for AMAG
User mapping: The email address for the AMAG Administrator
Cache refresh: The refresh time for the adapter cache. The default time is one day.
- Click Next, then click Finish.
- (missing or bad snippet)
- Click Physical Gateways.
- Click the AMAG Symmetry icon . The Configure AMAG Physical Access System page opens.
- Click Next.
- Enter the following information:
Configuration Name: A descriptive name for this connection to the AMAG Symmetry system. This is the name that displays in MicroStrategy Identity Manager.
Adapter Server URL: URL of the AMAG adapter server, such as http://IPaddress:port, http://hostname:port, or https://hostname:port.
Apapter Server Path: Path of the AMAG Symmetry adapter.
User ID Mapping: The field to use to look up identified AMAG Symmetry users.
If the users in your network are added manually or by importing a comma-separated values (CSV) file, type the profile field that contains information used to look up identified AMAG Symmetry users, as described in the Prerequisites. Select from the following fields:
If AMAG Symmetry users are identified by
- first name, type
first_name
- last name, type
last_name
- email address, type
email
- title, type
title
- an alternate value that you provided when you added users to your Identity Network, type
user_name
SSL Bypass: By default, communication is encrypted with secure sockets layer (SSL). To use plain, unencrypted communication between the adapter and Identity, type
true
. - first name, type
- Click Refresh. When MicroStrategy Identity successfully connects to the adapter, a green check mark is displayed.
- Click Next. The keys in your AMAG Symmetry system are loaded into MicroStrategy Identity.
- To secure the adapter by verifying that the adapter communicates with the MicroStrategy Identity Server, you must create a certificate for the server. To do this, click Support to contact MicroStrategy and request help creating a certificate.
- Click Done.
